THE WRONG SIDE OF HEAVEN & THE RIGHTEOUS SIDE OF HELL

If you do not belong to the category of folks who ignorantly doubt the existence of God, then your mind most certainly has nurtured thoughts of  what the second coming of Jesus Christ will be like. I was an unbelieving teenager when the thoughts started hitting me hard. I was even far from being a teenager when visions of rapture made it a routine to invade my nightly dreams.

You’ll agree with me that those thoughts can be hunting: more like a threat to the soul. Some of us find a way to suppress them. Some of us ignore them but live with the fear it creates in us. But some of us can’t seem to ignore or get rid of them no matter how hard we try. Those thoughts have certainly come to stay. I have them. You have them. We all have them. Now, let’s discuss them.

Believing a lie does not make the lie any more than a lie, and disbelieving the truth doesn’t make it any less than the truth. The lie is that there’s neither eternal life nor eternal condemnation. But the truth according to the Bible is that external life and eternal condemnation are spiritual realities that will inevitably be lived out by us depending on our individual choices.

Of course, our merciful God would not be so wicked to make us in His own image, only to throw us into a fire that never dies out. That’s why He didn’t create that fire with the intent of sending us there. Hell was created for Satan, a rebel of the highest other. For committing treason, the most soothing punishment for him according to God’s wisdom, is an eternity in unquenchable fire.

However, he was dumped on earth, pending the set time for the carrying out of his sentence. Since then, he’s been walking the earth and making human recruits: the young, the old, male, and female. For every recruit he makes, he subjects him or her to the same future he’s doomed to. If one decides to share in his rebellion, they likewise share in his doom.

The case is no different with those who decide to share in the obedience of Christ. As Christ’s obedience secured Him a permanent place at the right hand of God for all eternity, so will it be for those who share in that obedience. Whether or not we reap the fruit of obedience or the punishment of rebellion will be determined on a particular day: JUDGEMENT DAY.

Being a merciful father, God delays the coming of that day, as He makes every effort to reach out and get us on His team so we don’t share in Satan’s doom. He reaches out to us in various ways, one of which is THOSE THOUGHTS WE KEEP HAVING. We can’t run away from them. But we can embrace them and adjust so accordingly that we don’t get threatened by them.

We can share them too for others to equally embrace, adjust, and share. Running away would be putting one’s self on the WRONG SIDE OF HEAVEN & ON THE RIGHTOUS SIDE OF HELL. Trust that voice in your head right now, that’s the last place you wanna be on that day! Make hay while the sun shines, and advice the next person to do same.
